As we begin our discussion on Japan’s declining population, women need to be addressed first and foremost. As we read in Rocheleau’s “Gender and the Environment”, there are set roles that women are given. To be closer to nature, the house, and the children. These values have been long enforced in Japanese society, and have molded the way that women perceive marriage, childbearing, and success.
